Visitor Visa or Resident Visa application for Exchange student
Student Visitor Visa: For Exchange Student who intends to stay in Taiwan for less than 180 days, and meet the requirements for a Visitor Visa, should submit their applications to the appropriate Taiwan overseas mission. For other Exchange Student who intends to stay longer (e.g. 1 year), should comply with the procedure of Student Resident Visa, and submit their applications to the appropriate Taiwan overseas mission.

For International Degree-seeking students, before you enter Taiwan, please confirm you completed the following matters

1. Fill in the requirement of the dormitory
The admitted students, please reply to us whether you need the on-campus dormitory or not. Students not living on campus should also reply to the form.
For the undergraduate student: Campus Dormitory
For the postgraduate or doctoral student: Wo-Long Dormitory (arranged by the Division of Housing Service).
2. Applying for Student Resident Visa
Degree-seeking Students will stay in Taiwan for over 6 months, please apply for the Resident Visa with Letter of Admission of NTUE in your home country before you come to Taiwan study, and then apply for the Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) within 15 days after arriving in Taiwan.
Require Documents
a. Application Form: click: https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw. Fill out the application form online and print it out. Make sure the application form shows a Bar Code on it. Sign the application form.
b. Two-color passport-size photos taken in the last 6 months.
c. Original passport with blank pages and at least 6 months validity and one photocopy of it.
d. Health Certificate for Residence Application and one photocopy of it:
i. The health certificate should be issued within 3 months, by one of the local hospitals designated by the Centers for Disease Control of the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) or a foreign hospital (Health Certificate for Residence Application). Health certificates issued by foreign hospitals must be authenticated by a R.O.C. (Taiwan) overseas mission.
ii. Visit the website of the Centers for Disease Control at https://www.cdc.gov.tw/En for health checkup items and the list of designated local hospitals.
e. Original and one photocopy of admission permit of NTUE or for record of enrollment, as well as registration, and transcripts.
f. Original and one photocopy of highest education diploma and transcripts: for diplomas and transcripts not in Chinese or English, a Chinese- or English-translation version is required. (All documents must be verified by Taiwan overseas mission).
g. Original and one photocopy of proof of financial support: Bank statements or records of remittance provided by the applicant or his/her relatives within the third degree of kinship (grandparents, parents, and siblings), The scholarship certificate must indicate the duration and the exact amount of the scholarship.
h. Other supporting documents: the purpose of visiting Taiwan, consent by parents and the guardian in Taiwan, guarantee letter, language ability certificate… etc.)

Notices
a. Those who enter Taiwan without a visa or with a Landing Visa, and those who enter Taiwan on a Visitor Visa not for the purpose of undertaking studies, may not apply for a Resident Visa or an extension of the duration of stay on the ground of undertaking studies. Those not enrolled as full-time students may not apply for a Resident Visa on the ground of undertaking studies.
b. Applicants who enter Taiwan on a Visitor Visa which qualifies the Resident Visa for the purpose of undertaking studies, must apply for a Resident Visa within 8 days before the duration of stay expires. They may apply to the Bureau of Consular Affairs or any of its Central, Southwestern, Southern, or Eastern Taiwan offices.
c. Those who enter Taiwan on a Resident Visa or get a Resident Visa after having arrived in Taiwan must apply for an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) on the website of "Student Online Application System". The former must apply within 15 days from the next day of arrival, and the latter must apply within 15 days from the Resident Visa issuance date. Duration of stay is noted on the Alien Resident Certificate (ARC).

3. Insurance
According to National Health Insurance Act, foreigners staying in Taiwan for over 6 months are obligated to take out the insurance policy under National Health Insurance (NHI). However, new students who are coming to Taiwan for the first time cannot join Taiwan's NHI until the 7th month of their arrival. If newly arrived students wish to have health insurance for the first 6 months of their stay in Taiwan, they have the option of joining "Cathay Life Medical Insurance", a one-time payment of NTD3,000 for 6 months (NTD$500 per month) (price might change), or bring their own medical care insurance certification and verification by Taiwan (ROC) Embassies and Missions Abroad.
New students
When New students go through registration in NTUE, please choose one option on Orientation day (same as registration day):
1. At least 6 months of valid medical and injury insurance. The documents should also have been verified by Taiwan (ROC) Embassies and Missions Abroad.
2. Or, the students who apply for "Cathay Life Medical Insurance" should submit NT$3,000 to the Division of International Affairs on orientation day.
National Health Insurance(NHI)
The premium of each international student is NTD$826 each month (according to the current charging standard announced by the National Health Insurance Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare), and the premium from September to February of the next year (A total of NTD$ 4,956) should be paid in the first term and the premium from March to August (A total of NTD$ 4,956) should be paid in the second term.
4. Degree Verification
You are required to show your verified diploma and transcript during Registration Days. Please note that you will not be able to complete the registration procedure during Registration Days unless you present all the verified documents.
General Degree Verification
When you register, you have to hand in your Degree Certificates and Transcript, which must be verified by Taiwan (ROC) Embassies and Missions Abroad where your school is located.

5. Course wish list
Log in iNTUE校務系統(新) > Log In (Account: Student ID; Password: ARC No. (capital letters)+MM+DD (date of birth)),browse the course that you wish to enroll in, consult the courses with us and discuss the possibility of credit transfer with the professor at home university (for Exchange Students).

6. Others
Please confirm your Student ID number, accommodation, and the contact information of your Student Buddy (DIA will arrange a Taiwanese Student Buddy for you).
Prepare the following documents on the Orientation/Registration day: The original copy of the verified Degree Certificate and transcripts、at least 6 months of valid medical and injury insurance or make a payment of NTD$3,000 by cash、Tuition and miscellaneous payment receipt (students can do the payment after arriving Taiwan).
